All FOML activities are suspended until further notice. Please take care of yourself.
All Library programs and meetings have been cancelled or postponed until March 31. Therefore, the scheduled Friends-sponsored author event with Carol Lombardo will not be held next Wednesday, March 18th.
Thursday, February 20 from 1:30-3:30pm, The Friends of the Merrick Library will host a Family Movie. The Friends provide refreshments for all. This program will be held in the Library's Multipurpose Room.
It's that time of year-please renew your membership in the Friends, unless you joined in the last three months of 2019. If so, you are set for 2020!
The Friends are looking for a few more active members, specifically for someone to serve as Vice-President. The Vice President presides over meetings in the absence of the President, and is responsible for membership. Generally, this entails maintaining a spreadsheet with all the members' information, and overseeing the creation of promotional materials related to encouraging people to join the Friends. Please attend our next meeting in February if you are interested.
Finally, in FOML news, the Friends are hosting the Library's March 18th author event. Librarian Carol Ann Tack's popular book group will read Carol Lombardo's The Most Fun We Ever Had, and the author will join us for discussion. Books will be available for signing and purchase.
Please join us on Tuesday, January 14 at 4PM in the second floor conference room of the Library for our monthly meeting. We will be discussing the future of the Friends. Among other things, we need a Vice-President and a membership chairperson. If you can assist the Friends please attend or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you.
Please go to the American Library Association page, eBooksForAll, and consider signing the petition. MacMillan Publishing is blocking public libraries from purchasing multiple copies of new ebooks for the first eight weeks after their release. This is antithetical to the public library's mission of access for all citizens.
The Friends of the Merrick Library will not be hosting a Craft and Vendor Fair this year.
The next The Friends of the Merrick Library meeting will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 4PM in the Library's second floor meeting room. All are welcome.
The Friends of the Merrick Library paid to ship all the items collected by our teens during their "Any Soldiers" drive.
Items such as snacks, socks, and toiletries were collected in the Library, packed by out teens, and sent to troops serving overseas.
For the past few years, the Friends have hosted a Craft/Vendor Fair at the Library. It is our main fund-raiser, and enables us to support the library by paying for, among other things, the Library's passes to the Nassau County Children's Museum.
But we currently do not have enough active members to hold the sale next fall. We need "boots on the ground". So, if you can spare a few minutes a day to retrieve phone messages from potential vendors, or a few hours the day of the fair, or an afternoon going around town asking local business to display the fair flyer, please email the Friends at email@example.com. We simply can't do it without you!
