Craft and Vendor Fair
Karen Tusa thanked all present, and all those not present, who volunteered to work the Fair: Sandra Mintz, Fran Kommor, Maureen Garvey, Diane Christie, Marian Hart, Jan Sanseverino and especially Howard Schwartz for their efforts to make the event the success that it was. It was reported that Howard’s gate counter indicated we had 250 people walk through. That number can be used next year in the literature directed at attracting vendors.
Marion Ormsten will send thank-you notes to the Dunkin Donuts on Merrick Road and Central Parkway in Merrick, and to the Bagel Café. They supplied a box of donuts and cookies which we were able to give to attendees, and which encouraged people to purchase raffle tickets.
Karen noted that the Merrick Library has a slide on its homepage advertising the Friends.
Karen received confirmation from Eric Hawkins that the FOML will be in the “Getting Involved” LI Herald Merrick Guide. She received Ellen Firer’s approval for the listing.
Director Ellen Firer requested the Friends cover the purchase of a ProGo camera and accessories, at a cost of $450.00. The Library plans to loan the camera to patrons and use it for in-house programs. The members present unanimously approved this request on a motion from Maureen Garvey, seconded by Fran Kommor.
Maureen Garvey will ask Susan Goodwin, the Head of the Children’s Department, to let her know as soon as she picks the film to be shown at the Family Movie program on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 2PM. The Friends will provide popcorn, but will not have a popcorn machine. Jack Lubowsky will create a flyer for the event.
We obtained quotes to do our tax return from three local CPA firms; Diane Christie will report on the results at our next meeting.
Maureen Garvey will obtain more information about the Square card reader.
Upcoming meetings for the FOML: Jan 9, Feb 13, Mar 13, Apr 10, May 8 and June 12. All meetings are held on Tuesdays in the second floor conference room and start at 4:45PM.
