Minutes of the March 13, 2018 Friends of the Merrick Library Meeting
Present: Karen Tusa, President, Maureen Garvey, Secretary, Johanna Spoljaric and Marion Ormsten, Correspondence Chair.
Meeting called to order at 4:52 PM by Chair Karen Tusa.
The minutes of the February 2018 meeting were unanimously approved on a motion by Marion Ormsten and seconded by Johanna Spoljaric.
The Treasurer’s report, as follows, was read by Maureen Garvey and was unanimously accepted on a motion from Marion Ormsten and seconded by Johanna Spoljaric.
Total in Savings: $8,646.84
Total in Checking: $338.03
Invoices for the previous month were presented to the membership.
Residential membership stands at 51 with 15 renewals for 2018 still outstanding. Johanna suggested we mail hard copies of the application to those 15. Karen will do the mailing.
Karen emailed the Chamber of Commerce of Merrick members again, but memberships remain at only 4.
The Family Movie was well attended, with about 30 kids and 15 adults.
The members present voted unanimously not to purchase a “Playbill” ad from Chatterton School on a motion from Marion Ormsten, seconded by Johanna Spoljaric.
The audit of the Friends’ financial books and records was completed on February 7th.
Karen Tusa suggested that most events have two co-chairs.
Karen Tusa, Maureen Garvey, Marion Ormsten and Johanna Spoljaric volunteered to be present at The Shredding Event, scheduled for Sat. April 21st.
Maureen Garvey volunteered to co-chair with Karen for the Breakfast for the Friends. She will check the Friends’ phone messages for registration each day.
The Mini-Golf event was discussed. Since Karen has been unable to actually speak with a representative of the company, we have decided to table this event for the time being.
Members of the Board and any interested members at large will attend a webinar offered by the New York Library Association, “Best Practices for Management of Friends Boards” on March 20th at 2PM in the Merrick Library Conference Room.
Upcoming meetings for the FOML: Apr 10, May 8 and June 12. All meetings are held on Tuesdays in the second floor conference room and start at 4:45PM.
A motion to adjourn was made by Maureen Garvey at 5:30pm.
